Imagine a place without mobiles. A place with no TV. A place without distractions. A place where you can just "be". This is us - a very special place. Switch off and enjoy undisturbed time with your family or friends. Our guests enjoy relaxing on the verandas, experiencing nature, playing games and sitting around the fire - quality time for you and the ones close to you.
Our campground is the riverflat before you come to the Newnes Hotel. There is also free camping at the National Park just down the road from us. Our campsites have access to the river and there is plenty of space for the kids to run around and kick a ball. There are fire places and we sell fire wood at the Hotel Kiosk.
Camping guests use our shower and toilet block and they are welcome to use the covered BBQ and Pizza oven area. The Pizza oven needs to be booked in advance and charges apply. It takes 5 hours and 2 wheelbarrows of wood to heat it up.
The campsites are not powered. Showers cost $5 to offset the $52,000 it cost us to build this facility. Our Shower and Toilet Block has made camping at Newnes a much more comfortable experience.
We treasure the peace and quiet of Newnes. Most of our guests join the relaxed rhythm of nature. If you need to party til late - please do not come to Newnes...and please no generators after 8pm , and no 'brum-brums' any time!
From Sydney: Head west across the Blue Mountains, either via Katoomba, or via Windsor and Bell; from the Lithgow traffic lights on the Great Western Hwy proceed towards Bathurst for 6 km and then take the road towards Mudgee. (Castlereagh Highway). 4km down you will find Wallerawang Power Station on your left and a United service station on your right. That's the turn-off to Newnes is at Lidsdale.
From Bathurst: Follow the Great Western Highway to the Mudgee Road, then as above. It is also possible to follow side-roads through Wallerawang.
From Mudgee: Watch for the sign-posted turn-off (sharp left) at Lidsdale.
The drive from Lidsdale to Newnes is 35km following Wolgan Road and normally this takes 40 minutes. 5km from Lidsdale is Wolgan Gap, a steep windy stretch of road desending into the Wolgan Valley. The last 9km of Wolgan Road is gravel road through National Park. At Newnes is a location sign and you can't miss the historic Newnes Hotel.
Drivers towing a caravan will have to be sure they have the vehicle strong enough to pull the caravan back out of the Wolgan Valley again.
Small trailers should present no difficulty.
