Giru Town Rest area and Camping ground situated in small village of Giru,5klms east of Bruce highway and about 40 Klms north of Ayr is a peaceful council run free camping ground. Ample space for self contained camping in a well maintained grassed level areas and a sub tropical environment. Public amenities are a brisk 5 minute walk. This is the second time that we have stayed and would recommend.

The area is great and the local toilets very clean, our only disappointment was the noise as the trains can wait for over 30 minutes beside the park as they wait for another train to pass. Compressed air hissing and a diesel engine running makes sleeping difficult. The furthest side of he park is occupied by permanents so options are limited. I would stay one night if looking for a place to stop but would certainly prefer somewhere further from the trains.

This is a good site to overnight, well off the highway and while the sugar mill is close by we didnt find the noise all that intrusive. There is quite a bit of room so you dont need to be camped close to others. The site is walking distance to the few shops and the locals are friendly. Didnt find the passing trains too disturbing.

Grassy area suited for all types of vehicle. Sugar cane factory is in use during the season, approx. June to November but surprisingly the noise isn't too intrusive. There is also a distinct smell that goes with it! Trains on the other side of the campsite make a noise but there were few during the night. Locals are very welcoming and the pub is good value. We stayed three nights and were not kept awake by the trains or the sugar mill.

With toilets not on site and a long walk away yes clean but not in the camp area which is not in any reviews. Noise from sugar mill and trains makes this not the best of overnight stays

Lovely grassy site suitable for all vehicles. Shade or sun. But if you are a light sleeper give it a miss. The cane mill is right next door and the noise is constant. The trains that seems to be coming in the passenger door are very loud.

Decided to deviate off the Bruce highway a few kilometers, and extremely glad that I did. Where everwhere else that I have been has been dry and dusty it was an oasis of green. There was one other motorhome here when I arrived and a party of backpackers turned up overnight. I was lucky to grab myself a spot between 2 trees that gave me morning and late afternoon shade while still exposing the PV panels on the roof to charge up the batteries. The fish and chip shop has unfortunately closed down and for the life of me I couldn't find the water tap. I was parked close to the railway line and slept soundly. Thoroughly enjoyed my 2 nights here

Great little spot. Definitely big rig friendly. Yeah if you like peace and quiet it’s not the place for you. But we slept really well and we were right on train side. Locals are lovely. We were told to Give donation at shop if you want, they are saving for a well needed dump point. Yummo fish and chips 9.90 at cafe. Water tap has now a slow valve in it due to someone washing their car.

This free, flat, grassed area makes for a nice stop. There a absolutely no facilities (but I didn't go to the sugar mill to see if the toilets are still there). The sugar mill is a constant hum in the background and the train line has a lot of traffic. We used ear plugs, at night, so where quite happy with our stay.

This is a good free overnight stay. I have a friend who has worked at the Mill for many years and he told me that the local Progress Association has been trying to attract the RV travellers to their small town over the last couple of years. While the main rail line does pass close by and is quite busy we found that the trains seem to slow down here as there is a road crossing here. We found the trains were very quiet overnight as they passed through. We recommend this site even though the amenities are in a park which is back closer to the Mill.
