Mother of Ducks Lagoon Rest Area - NSW RVFT

Rest Area Overnight - New South Wales

This free overnight rest area is located just north of the amenities at the day rest area. It is located on the banks of the lagoon with plenty of shade and grassy areas to camp on.

Here you will find toilets with disabled access, electric BBQs, water, picnic tables and one pet per vehicle is permitted.

This site is now being managed by Armidale Regional Council instead of Guyra Recreation Club.  Council had to meet certain legislative requirements which meant the changes in the number of available sites.  They hope travellers will now enjoy the improved amenities and extra facilities now on site.

Stuck for things to do with kids? Enjoy scenic views and a picnic while birdwatching at Mother of Ducks Lagoon Nature Reserve at Guyra, near Armidale in NSW’s northern tablelands.

Located on the edge of Guyra, 37km north of Armidale, Mother of Ducks Lagoon Nature Reserve offers a special birdwatching experience.

The reserve is a rare breeding place for several freshwater wetland bird species and a resting place for numerous migratory birds. Plan a visit or stop over while driving through the northern tablelands. You’ll see an ever-changing array of birds, and it’s a great option if you’re looking for things to do with kids.

Find a spot on the observation platform on the lagoon’s eastern edge to be treated to scenic views of this rare montane wetland. Mother of Ducks Lagoon Nature Reserve is also a lovely spot for enjoying a picnic by the water.

Has been " done up" since our last visit. Down to 8 sites and toilets closed 7pm to 7am. Good gravel base. Much smaller than before so get here early.

Area has been graded and gravelled. See photo of site layout, only 8 RV allowed. No generators allowed

Nice spot, but a bit prone to being boggy. Ground is uneven in spots, but nothing some blocks can’t fix. Dump point on site at the toilet block. There is a 2nd camp area about 50m south of the toilet block which is roomier and flatter. Read the signs to make sure you’re within the boundaries. Guyra is at approx 1320m elevation, so can get quite cold outside of summer. Very peaceful and quiet.

This spot has become very popular, we have stayed numerous times, there are toilets plus a dump point, it is within walking distance of the town centre, plus a short walk to the bowling/golf club and the meals there are good. Our CMCA chapter go each year for the Lamb & Potatoe Festival in January, great time had by all. We will be back.

No facilities and not really level but no complaints it was a very good stopover.

Convenient place to stop with all that is needed. Club across the road and shops around the corner

Great spot, not so cold in November.

Very friendly town. Ebro waterfalls worth visiting.

Stopped overnight again. Plenty of caravans and a few motorhomes. Cleaner woke all at 6.30 emptying bins. The area offers all that is needed for an overnight. Be careful after rain. Local club is close by. The village of Guyra also needs support, seemingly going backwards.

I have been staying over night at mother of ducks for many years. Now someone who has no idea about over night camping has stuck a heap of posts in the middle of the show and spoil it. You need to camp north / south because of the slope. Get it right. If the posts are there next time I come through. I'll keep driving. No matter how tired I am.!

Stopped the night going north and returning south, beautiful outlook, quiet, great local bowlo food.

Stayed O/N 28Jan22. Excellent spot. Whilst signs show the number of camp spots, there are no markings or barriers so you can park to suit yourself, having regard for other campers. Scenic outlook and very quiet. Good amenity block with dump and water point outside it. Water is minimum charge of $1. We took 68 litres which was under the minimum charge. Excellent service and good accessibility. Highly recommend.

Nice spot close to town overlooking the golf course. Some shade but fairly open and not all parts are flat. Can get VERY cold at night.

A delightful break on our way north. The last couple of times camped here were in snow, so this warmth is lovely. A gentle breeze is encouraging us to stay. Donation box at the toilet block and next to dump point. Thanks to the community.

Have stayed here on numerous occasions. In places it is very hard to level up but is very popular so sites go quickly. There are toilets on site - outlook is very pleasant but can get very cold in winter and morning frosts and fogs are not unusual.
