North Star Road Rest Area

Following on from my last review of 24/4/2019. Nothing has changed here. Still a great overnighter.

Large rest area on the southbound side of the Newell Highway south of Boggabbilla. One of the better rest areas to stay in on the Newell as you head for Queensland. If coming from the south you pass a rest area called Mungle Creek which is primarily for trucks and North Star is 1 km further on on the other side of the road. Road noise but not too bad.

Was the best highway side camping spot between Moree and Goondiwindi There was space well back from the road and a second area even further back that we missed seeing in the dark. Some highway noise but not enough to disturb you. Was good re rubbish but not perfect. Had a bus running a genie behind us but he was a long way back and did not disturb us. Recommend for small and big rigs.

Good level area with toilets and rubbish bins however it is very noisy. We were tired so crashed almost immediately and then moved on early.

This Rest Area has been a regular stopover for us on our first night away from home when travelling the Newell when we just want to get some kilometres up. The long drop toilet is very clean and rubbish bins are provided. The front area is set aside for trucks and there is a school bus parking bay. Parking for RV’s is at the rear of the bitumen. Behind the bitumen amongst the tress is another large parking area. This is all dirt. For a roadside rest area we give this a high score.
