This free overnight rest area's view over the Flinders Ranges and Spencer Gulf are fantastic. It is open, grassy and has shade available. You will be travelling a dirt road to access this but it is well maintained. It has a maximum stay limit of 20 hours
Turn off Horrocks Pass Road at GPS -32.65792692, 138.06794547 onto an unsealed track to the lookout for approx 7kms.
Well worth the 7 kms of dirt road in. Beautiful views and peaceful. We were the only ones there.
Hancock’s Lookout - sign at turnoff: Smaller notice (30 Dec 2017) says:
“Camping permitted one night only.
No fires during fire danger season or total fire ban days.
Local Government Land by-law No. 4.
Expiation Fee $187.50”
No facilities; posted photos from other members show what a lovely spot it is. Apparently the one-night camping was recently (re-)introduced for a trial period.
Great views, can be windy.
The sign at turn off now states "no fires" at any times
