Frog Buttress is the only camping area in Moogerah Peaks National Park. Named after the northern-facing cliff line by rock climbers in the early 1970s, this camping area is normally booked out by climbers from Easter till late October each year. During this time it is recommended that families wishing to camp should consider alternative campgrounds or accommodation.

The hotter months are not recommended as the mountain can reach up to 40 °C during the day.

Two car camp sites are located in the Mount French car park.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.


Two vehicle camp sites are available in the Mount French section car park. Book sites well in advance for Easter, June/July and September holiday periods.

  • Access: By conventional vehicle; camper vans and small mobile homes.
  • Number of sites: 2 sites (separate but not numbered).
  • Camp sites are suitable for: car-camping, camper trailers and small mobile homes.
  • Camp site surface: Gravel.
  • Facilities: None at site but close to flushing toilets, picnic tables, wood barbecues, limited firewood supplied.
  • Open fires: Prohibited but barbecues are allowed (except when fire bans apply). Fuel stoves are recommended.
  • Generators: Not allowed.
  • Essentials to bring: Drinking water, rubbish bags, insect repellent, fuel stove and sunscreen.
  • Bookings: Book online, over-the-counter, or by phone.
  • Mobile phone coverage: Generally available.

Sealed road all the way up to the summit of Mt French to the National Park car park. Both vehicle camp sites are rocky, bring your levelling ramps with you. Very quiet here at night. There is a tent camping area nearby, mainly used by rock climbers. Toilets very clean, with lots of hand cleaner available. No fires allowed, but free electric BBQ’s available.

There are only two vehicle camp sites at Mt French, book a site via the QPWS website. $6.55 pppn. No power available. The sites are not suitable for caravans or big rigs. C class motorhomes up to 24 feet can be accommodated take care at one camp site due to tree right in the middle. The national park toilets, picnic tables, information stand and BBQ’s are close by. The two walking trails are short but well worth a hike to take in the great views, one trail is ideal for wheel chair access. Water available but not potable.
