Oakabella Homestead

Private Campground - Western Australia

Closed indefinitely due to storm damage. 24.8.2022 LS

The beautifully restored Oakabella homestead is situated 30km north of Geraldton and exudes historical charm.  It is also known as Western Australia's most haunted house.  During the day, enjoy a tour and hear the history of the settlers.  During the night, enjoy a ghost tour but make sure you take a torch.

Built in 1860, the site includes a 13-room homestead, cookhouse, barn, shearing shed, stables and blacksmith's workshop.

The museum on the property has an impressive display of relics found onsite including a mid-1800s bottle collection, Indigenous artefacts and historic farm utensils.

You can join a tour of the homestead and mini museum of farm equipment for an insight into life in the late 1800s. Stop in at the cafe for some light refreshments or simply stroll through the shearing shed and stables, along the creek and past the scenic gorge and waterfall.

They have a basic camping area for you to stay a few days.

We just spent two night at the Oakabella Campgrounds. We had a ball. They are under new management (12 months). The new managers Belinda and Brian are SO friendly. They have made a number of changes including a monthly Music and Ribs night which we were fortunate enough to participate in. Music started around 6 pm and continued until after 10 pm. What can I say... well be back. Check out their Facebook page for upcoming events.

This is a nice welcoming family run business. The scones, jam and cream were delicious! The campsite is as described in the paddock but it is grassy and flat. Amenities are clean and in good condition. They have a campfire each night and the tours (ghost and daytime) are very interesting. A good (cheap $9 pp pn) base to explore around Geraldton. Highly recommend.
