Normanton River Camping Area

This free camping area is located just after the bridge on the left as you drive out of Normanton. It is located on the banks of the Norman River. There are no facilities here.

You will need to go to the Normanton Information Centre to get a permit to camp here. They give out a limited number each day. It is located at the corner of Landsborough & Caroline Streets.

Please note: parts of the tracks are black soil which can get boggy in the wet.

Great spot for fishing. maximum stay is 48 hours. Beware of the crocodiles.

Currently closed due to covid-19. The campsite in town is $18 for an unpowered site for the night lots of room although the owner wants you to park in a specific location. No idea why :)

We camped here for two nights which seemed to be the extent of the permit. There are only ten permits permitted at any one time. For ten vehicles the area is vast. For a couple of days it is a good free camp site close to town. There are no facilities.

We camped for a night, twice. Must get a permit, they only issue 10 each day. Very dry and when we had a strong wind, it was very dusty. They advise not to camp too close to the river, we were told that the night after we were there, the river came up to where we had camped! Good overnight spot so long as it isn’t windy.

Great spot, must be fully self contained as there are no services. Permits from the Info Centre in town. The butcher in town is excellent and the supermarket in the street beside the butcher is the better of the two in town, but still expensive.
