Applecross is a 6000 acre cattle property at Glen Elgin. Sharing 6km of boundary with the Butterleaf National Park, it boasts rugged granite peaks, pastures, creeks and large tracts of native forest replete with native wildlife including some rare and endangered species.
It is located approximately 20 km from the Gwydir Hwy and 25 km from the New England Hwy. The road is gravel but is fine for a car and caravan with due care.
Also nearby are several world heritage national parks, water falls and wilderness/camping areas.
Nearby rivers are great for paddling in and kids love the dam. Dogs are welcome with care.
On the property is our guest house which is the old 4 bedroom farmhouse with power and water, fully furnished and equipped. Nothing flash but quite comfortable all year 'round. Just bring your own groceries. The house can sleep 9 in beds, and extra mattresses are available for large groups. Beautiful views with no roads, or neighbours in sight or hearing.
4 bedrooms (Queen x1 / Single x1 / Single x2 / Bunk (2 pax) x2) | 2 living rooms (1 sofa bed,1 sofa bed) | 1 bathroom
Powered and unpowered camp sites over 6000 acres is available here.
Please note that "Applecross" is a working farm with all the associated cool stuff (animals, bush walks, mountains, etc) and issues (flies, snakes, machinery and so on).
Booking via the youcamp website is essential as there is little mobile reception. In the owners words, "In practical terms, what that means is that I do not carry my mobile on the farm. If you send me a text or voice message, I will not get it until I next go to town. So if you call me on my mobile or leave me a message, or send me a text, I may not get it for a week or more. Use email. It is the only reliable way to contact me. I check it several times a day."
