A blissful, shady oasis, Petrie Park is the only access point to the Mary River in the Tiaro area. Facilities include toilets, a boat ramp, campfires are permitted and wood BBQ. The park is also home to the Tiaro Lions Raft Race.
There is limited space for camping and the day area is quite large as is the parking area for boats and trailers. There is a concrete boat ramp and flushing toilets in the day area as well as tables and seats under the trees.
The access to the camping area is down and across a concrete runoff with a steep climb at the other side ready to catch the caravans as they bottom out on the concrete.
To provide regulation to Council’s bush and basic non commercial camping grounds, a camping permit system has been introduced.
Permits for a stay of up to 48 hours can be obtained from;
- The Visitor Information Centres in Maryborough and Hervey Bay;
- The Royal Hotel, Tiaro; and
- The Bauple Museum.
