Locals say that after the valley was settled, shepherds yarded sheep on the flat at night keeping the dingoes at bay.
Camping is one of the best ways to enjoy this historic area and offers a great base for bush walking, fishing and relaxing. Camping with dogs is permitted at Sheepyard Flat. Dogs must be controlled on a leash at all times.
Walkers can enjoy the Howqua Hills Historic Walk with its self guided interpretive panels. This easy 1.5 hour return walk follows the Howqua River from Sheepyard Flat to Fry’s Flat
Go to sleep with the river babbling beside you. It is very large, grassy and offers you plenty of shade if you want it. There are two sections for you to choose from
The pit toilets are maintained but you need to take your own toilet paper.
