Cranky Rock turn off is 5km east of Warialda, off the Gwydir Highway, the 3 km sealed road will take you all the way to Cranky Rock where you will find a jumble of giant boulders heaped in the most fantastic positions by a past volcanic upheaval, features include a suspension bridge, birdlife and wildlife sanctuary and, a viewing platform. Facilities include picnic areas, a large shelter with free barbecues, public toilets and a children’s playground. There is a full time caretaker and kiosk on site and should you wish to stay overnight or even longer there is a campground with powered/unpowered sites and hot showers available.

Walking trails are established to suit either an easy stroll or a more challenging walk for the adventurous hiker.The name Cranky Rock was derived from an old legend which said that an old ‘Cranky Chinaman’ jumped to his death from the highest point of the balancing rocks after being accused of some wrong doing.

Visitors can go fossicking along the creek. Signs of aboriginal life can be seen within the nature reserve amongst the many plant life.

Excellent spot, 3kms off the Hwy, sealed road in, great walks, swimming hole, plenty of wildlife. Has water but bring your own drinking water, 1M, 1F toilet & 1 Shower. Will come again.

Great spot, caretakers were very helpful. Good fire for happy hour and enjoyed some wonderful sharing of experiences. Go with water tanks full and enjoy the experience. Warialda was a good spot to walk around with an excellent visitor centre

Our chapter had an outing here & the new care takers are excellent. Facilities were spotless, there is plenty of wildlife roaming around, it is a paradise for bird watchers. The scenic walk is well worth the visit. We intended to stay for 2 days but stayed for a week it was so good. Our chapter will certainly be back again. We thank the management for a great time.

Beautiful campground, mostly dirt, very little grass. Only about 4 spots available for power, but plenty of space for unpowered sites. Has a free camp feel to it. Pleasant caretaker. Clean facilities. Potable water available but not for filling tanks. Plenty of wildlife in & around park. ( Emu, kangaroo, lyrebirds). The road in is now sealed. Worth the deviation from the main road. The rock features of Cranky Rock are stunning.
