General Gordon Hotel Camping Area

Private Campground - Queensland

The General Gordon Hotel, established in 1886, stands proudly amongst the cane fields. This pub has awesome character and is about as Aussie as they come! (Past Bakers Creek turn right towards Eton, pub is 7km along Homebush Road).

There is an overnight camp area at this pub. They do charge a small fee.

Small area beside and behind pub. Some shade. Bar staff made us welcome and showed us the men and ladies toilets the showers and water hose. Not really suitable for big rigs if there are other motorhomes also around. The country road outside is quite busy and a little noisy. Cane train rumbled by as we relaxed beside the Van.

Small grassy area beside the pub, amongst the cane fields. Nothing else there except the pub, so best suited to a quick stop over. At $5 it is good value. Just be aware that the showers may not meet everyone's standards of cleanliness.

A good spot for a stopover to explore the area. Staff are friendly, meals are excellent, noise is not bad although an early night is not really possible with noise from the pub and/or patrons. The camping area is not huge but certainly adequate for the number of vans. Was rather amusing for us today, we it our awning in due to windy weather while we visited Mackay for the day. Upon our return we were rather shocked to see a caravan parked so close to our motorhome that our awning would not open out without impacting their van. Then they opened a slide out another 1/2 meter into our space. Couldn’t believe the situation especially since there was oodles of room on the other side. Apart from that incident we’ve loved our time at General Gordon. Thank you.

great place to stay suitable for big rigs. $5 pp shower and toilet available. Stayed here 7 days

Great spot for an overnighter or two, Cost includes shower and toilets available. Nice meals also.

Fabulous small area big enough for Big Rig if not full ofcourse meals in pub $5 pp pn with Ladies and Men Hot Showers and toilets and water. Power available also. At Harvest time of the sugar cane the little trains pull long little carriages passed on and off all day. Some nice shade trees.

Great little spot, $5 beers, very friendly locals too, thanks for the stay.

A really nice spot nestled in the cane fields. And at $5 a night the best value around. There is a basic shower/bath upstairs and toilets at the front (we didn't see them but were told the men's is open 24/7). The down side was that sometimes Van's are packed in like sardines and there were lots of dogs with loud owners telling them to shut up. Plus the music. Then there was the grader and the a farmer moving equipment with his tractor, but all went quiet later in the day but that was when we could here the traffic noise. The traffic sound carries here and there is a lot for a secondary road, it goes into the evening and starts again pre dawn. And this was without the pub noise because it was shut Sunday night and all Monday
