Bordertown Recreation Lake - SA RVFT

Rest Area Overnight - South Australia

Please note: This 72hr stop area has a dump point for motorhomes and caravans.

Honesty box onsite.

The Bordertown Recreation Lake was created after the development of a by-pass near the center of the town in 1988.

Part of the development was the erection of a bridge over the railway line running along the northern edge of the town.

To create this overpass, a massive amount of soil was dug out nearby and at the end of the project it was decided to turn this ugly hole into a lake.

Walking trails have since been developed around the lake and through various funding sources, a jetty and three artworks - the Crooked Tank, the Horse Fence and the Sluice Gates - have been created.

Fishing is a popular pastime, with the lake regularly stocked with yabbies, redfin, perch and other breeds of fish. Canoeing is another suitable leisure activity - swimming is not permitted.

It's a great picnic spot, with a shelter and electric bbq. There's a toilet nearby and a toilet dump for caravans and motor homes.
This site allows overnight stopovers for self contained vehicles. There is a fair amount of space available for all sized RV's. The entry is from the town centre under the highway bridge and over the rail line. It is close to the railway and the highway so can be noisy with interstate truck traffic until late at night and the odd train blowing their air horn. However our RV is well insulated so it didn't present a problem for us. There is a unisex toilet which is well stocked with essentials and reasonably clean. The lake adjacent puts a nice touch to the location. Fishing is allowed but return of fish is recommended. Great spot for an overnight rest stop.

This is a nice area for an overnight stay. Short walk into town. Nice shopping area and the bakery has some tasty treats.

The new camping area is lovely and green with lots of trees, be careful where you park. Honesty box at entrance gate. Great idea for the council so hope campers donate. Lovely outlook over the lake and walking tracks.

Good overnight stop. Some traffic noise but not too much. Well maintained with nice short walk around the lake.

beautiful gem in the south east. relaxing, close walk to town. foodland and other quaint shops and cafes. peaceful setting. bit of truck and train noise but is easily overcome. only drawback is the bullants around the area at times

Parking is on hard stand and reasonably large area. Near rail line and road so if s light sleeper this is probably not the place for you. Surrounds are pleasant with green grass and a lake

This RV Camping area has expanded. It now has a maximum stay of 72hours and donation requested. Still only the one toilet, hopefully the donations will help improve the facilities. See pictures of the large new area.
