Hinkler Lions Park - QLD RVFT

Rest Area Overnight - Queensland

This free overnight rest area is located opposite the airport in Bert Hinkler's (pioneer aviator) city of birth.  It has a maximum stay limit of 24 hours for self contained vehicles only.

Pets on lead welcome.  Bins, toilets, water and covered seating also available

Well set out bitumen stop over. Clean Toilets and playground, portable water to fill up with. No complaints, well set up for self contained vehicles.

Nice overnight stop over on the corner of University Drive and Isis highway which has recently been opened up for camping due to the RVFT status. Area is relatively small, all parking areas are bitumen but restricted to moderate size vehicles. There is a dump point and toilets as well as some shade and kids playground. Can be a bit noisy during the day being close to the airport but usually quiet at night. Close to major shopping centre.

Good enough for an overnighter, not marked out very well as not many places you can park without unhitching.

Park has today reopened to RV Parking after after council has done extensive improvements. Parking bays (back in please) have been extended and can now accommodate up to 11 meter vehicle and caravans should be able to hang the back of van over the grass and stay hitched. Line marking is to be painted in the bays and if everybody does the right thing around 18 vehicles should be accommodated. There is potable water, dump point and toilets as well as various shelter shed and tables. There is also a children's play area. Self contained vehicles only and Rangers do patrol the area.

The new parking layout with RVs between the yellow lines and cars and smaller rvs using the white lines is brilliant. And sites perfectly level as well! Many towns should follow this example.
