Yarrawonga Point Camping Area

Free Camping - Queensland

Turn off Notch Point Road at GPS -21.722386, 149.452579 and follow the dirt road for approx 3kms until you reach the camping area right on the water.

The two free camping areas are very large and are grassy with shade available if desired.  It's a great place for fishing, crabbing, swimming and has a boat ramp.  There are no facilities here however, but that's not really the point of coming out here is it?  Come and spend some time relaxing and enjoying yourself.

Unable to get our motorhome (7 metre long) into the campground as road is boggy, has deep angled ruts and looking ahead has sandy patches.

This isolated free camp is quite small probably less than half a hectare and sort of spreads along the creek. The road in is sealed except for the last 1km and it is a good gravelled road without corragations. There are a few trees but not much shade. The creek is tidal and varies from just pools to around 70m across. There is mud when the tide is out. There is mangroves on the other side and fruit bat colonies chattering all the time in the background. At present there is 7 vans here and room for about 4 more. If you fish it is excellent. There are prawn farms around here and a bit of traffic uses the road. There is Phone but no TV.

Beautiful spot, right on the coast. Getting in is challenging with a narrow, tree lined, pot holed road access. It would probably require four wheel drive in wet conditions. However it is well worth the effort. The only disappointing aspect is the beer bottles and cans left by ignorant people who do not appreciate their own country.

A lovely spot right on the point, but seriously NOT for large, high rigs, and certainly not 5th wheelers. The access road is very narrow with deep pools of muddy water to cross and low hanging branches to negotiate. No facilities at all and beware of crocodiles in the water, some signs have been removed warning of the danger.

Great bush camp on the Hedland two options oneone sheltered one in the open area track in suitable for high clearance two wheel drive but four-wheel-drive would be better no facilities at all

There is also a large grassy camping area on the seaward side of the point, accessed by a dirt road going around the side of tbe hill.

The road in after the bitumen is extremely corrugated then the last three kms after the gate is potholes, muddy patches, narrow and rough. Ok at ten or fifteen kms per hour. Not good for a motor home towing a boat. Boat ramp is a steep beach launch requiring a 4WD.
