Visitors can bush camp at Ourimperee Waterhole behind the Woolshed or at several sites on the Paroo River near Caiwarro.
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.
Camping area features: shady areas beside waterholes along the Paroo River, where you can go swimming, fishing, canoeing, birdwatching and bushwalking.
Location: Ourimperee Waterhole is behind the Currawinya Woolshed approximately 46 km from the park entrance from Thargomindah or 25 km from the entrance from Hungerford.
Access: the camping area can be reached by 4WD vehicle, off-road camper trailers, off-road caravans and small off-road motorhomes and buses in dry weather only.
Number of sites: open areas without separately defined sites.
Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car; walk-in camping; off-road camper trailers; off-road caravans, small off-road motorhomes and large groups. Maximum group size of 15 people and 6 vehicles per group.
Camp site surface: sand, dirt.
Facilities: cold bush showers, flushing toilets nearby at the woolshed.
Open fires: allowed (except when fire bans apply) but fuel stoves recommended.
Generator use: prohibited.
Essentials to bring: drinking water - at least seven litres of water per person, per day for drinking, cooking and washing. Local water is NOT suitable for drinking. Bring rubbish bags, and take all recyclables and rubbish with you when you leave. Bins are not provided. Bring your own untreated, clean mill off-cuts for firewood, or preferably bring a fuel or gas stove for cooking.
Bookings: book online, over-the-counter or by phone or obtain permits and pay camping fees at the self-registration stand at the Woolshed or near Caiwarro Ruins. It is advisable to contact RACQ for road conditions and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) for weather conditions one week prior to travelling.
