Salt Creek Rest Area

Rest Area Overnight - Northern Territory

This free overnight rest area is an unsealed drive through layout with a thick screening of trees between you and highway. There are tracks that take you further away from the road if you wish.

It has tank water that will need to be boiled first, and with covered picnic tables and BBQ. There are a few trees for a bit of shade.

This is a lovely spot. Stayed here on our way to Kings Canyon. At about an hours drive away it is the nearest free camp to the canyon & made for a very convenient stopover. There is no road noise at night as very little traffic passes through. We drove into the canyon for the day & returned here for a second night. It is quiet with plenty of space. Bins are provided & the area was clean & tidy. No facilities so you need to be self contained. About 7 - 8 vans here the nights we stayed. We enjoyed this stopover.

Plenty of room, with tracks leading to more sites over the sand dunes, which were soft, so be careful not to get stuck. Although close to the road, very little traffic at night. Shade, bins, shame about the sloths who leave toilet paper in the bushes and grass. Only 3 other campers, nice overnight spot.
