The Dam is located on the Severn River 22 kms from Ashford and 63km from Inverell. Pindari Dam offers outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation including picnicking, bushwalking, sailing, swimming, fishing and waterskiing.
The foreshore park is a popular local picnic site and informal camping. There is a lookout on the main dam wall, next to the Office. Recreation facilities include boat ramp, BBQ's. Bush shelter sheds and tables, toilets and a modern amenities block.
The camping area is small so is not suitable for big rigs.

First visit to this site by car and I must say that while the views over the dam are spectacular the camp site is somewhat rustic. There are sites up on the top section but access is steep and can be difficult, particularly for bigger rigs or if towing. The lower levels seems to be better suited to 4WD and camper trailers or tenting. Access to the camping area approaching from Ashford is a steep climb. There is a boat ramp at the dam but it was high and dry due to the low water levels due to drought.

This would be OK for rustic campers with 4wd drives but not for off the shelf motorhomes or caravans. You will be camping mainly on rock.
