New Itay rest area is more than the ordinary. It is a free overnight rest area with lots of shade and sealed carpark.
It also has a museum depicting the Italian history of the area and a cafe/restaurant serving coffee and meals, etc. It also has an art display and a glass blowing man working and displaying his goods for you to purchase.
Here you will find toilets, picnic tables, BBQ. Pets are permitted however, not in the complex itself.

Great spot for overnight.... toilets nice and clean with lots of parking on level ground.with lovely trees and greenery. The area is maintained by volunteers, so donate some coin to keep this place going. Noisy from the trucks though.

Highway noise even behind the few trees. Signs saying don’t park here because of driveways leaves very few spots on the north side (still on the south bound side of the Highway). Its not grass or tarmac just dust. The unsealed gravel bit on the side near the glass blower(closed) is tight and with cars parked for coffee there are few spots to camp at best. None when we drove through. We would have given it a miss but we were tired.

Newly relocated behind shop and cafe due to highway upgrade, so much quieter, completely on bitumen, about 40 different types of vehicles here last night. Toilets and grounds managed by volunteers so give a donation.

Great overnight stop, on bitumen. There is plenty of history to absorb. And a great cafe with traditional Italian Toast and Coffee.
The site is operated by volunteers and donations are most welcome.
