This free overnight rest area is large with plenty of shade. It has bitumen access and is fairly level as well. It is located on the banks of the Dawson River with plenty of distance from the road to ensure a peaceful time here.
It is only a few minutes out of town where you will find the local shops and pub.
There is a donation box located at the shower block which goes towards payment of the gas for the hot showers. A good fishing spot where you can catch Yellowbelly.
Here you will find toilets, showers, water, picnic tables, BBQ facilities and a boat ramp. Maximum 48 hour stay limit.
Excellent free camp area with a new amenities block just opened. Nil power available.
Wet, rainy and horrible day/night!
No where to camp, people had taken up 2/3 camping spots and it looked like at least half a dozen people had been there much longer than 48hrs. Clothes lines, generators and rubbish!
Gave it a miss, but would be a nice spot if people were doing the right thing!
Stayed here on a Sunday night. Camping along river bank. No traffic noise but lots of campers using noisy generators & quite busy. Average / rundown toilets & hot showers, (take your own toilet paper), small bins, all over flowing on weekend. Emptied Monday morning. Easy access into town via short walk. Disappointing to see vans letting grey water over riverbank. Donation box for shower use. Good for an overnight stay, but not a favourite. Can't complain about the price, free.
This site is extremely popular especially in the winter. Many more vehicles could get in if everybody didnt parallel park to the roadway. It is close enough to the town to walk if you are fit. There is plenty of shade and fishing is available in the river. It is obvious that some are flaunting the 48 hour limit.
Great place, but the barbecues are being upgraded and they don’t work. Sometime after 8pm the sprinklers come on and getting around them to get to the toilet block is fun!!
Stayed on a Wednesday night. Arrived late after a meal at the Hotel. Easily found a level spot. No noisy generators. Nice new facilities. Cane Toads kept guard over the showers, welcome to the tropics. Fortunately we're self contained. Great effort by Theodore, well done. We'll be back.
Can recommend the old amenities still good, new toilets and showers nearly completed. Was not crowded last monday, but beware if wet as can be slippery. No time limit posted. Donation requested. Locals friendly and IGA very good for country town. Good telstra need sat dish for tv
