With its excellent camping and picnic facilities, the beachside campground at Diamond Head is one of the most popular places to stay in Crowdy Bay National Park. 


It includes campsites for caravans, camper trailers and by-your-car camping. Once you’ve ogled the ocean and the blackened pillars of Split Rock from the beach, there is lots more to explore. 


Take your choice from several hiking tracks, including the 4.8km Diamond Head loop walk via Indian Head with its panoramic views of coast, mountains and forest, or the shorter Mermaid Lookout track. And don't forget to pick up your wildflowers identification brochure, bird and fauna lists from the nearby park office before you head out. 


There is 4WD access to the beach from Diamond Head, however you’ll need to organise a permit from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council before setting out. 


You’ll find gas barbecues, picnic shelters and outdoor showers right on the beach. 


Activities: walking, swimming, surfing and diving, whale watching, camping, picnics and barbecues 


Getting there: Diamond Head campground is at the northern end of the park. Access is via Diamond Head Road. 


Facilities: gas/electric barbecues, flush toilets, cold showers, amenities block, picnic tables 


Water supply: You'll need to bring drinking and cooking water (allow at least three litres per person per day). Treated bore water for washing is provided. 


Bookings: No bookings are taken for Diamond Head campground. It is very popular in school and public holiday periods and operates on a first-come first-served basis. Contact the parks office only for specific enquiries.


UPDATE AUGUST 2014: Tripigy has been the first to visit the newly renovated campground. We've also included the latest pictures of the campground which we think is now one of the best locations in a national park. The facilities are clean, the managers are great and the new grounds are grassy (no flooding) and level sites as you will see in the pictures.
