Escape the crowds and get back-to-basics in this small, isolated campground tucked among the snow gums.
Take your pick from the grassy campsites to set up your tent; the campsites are spread out so you’ll barely notice other campers. Your only company is likely to be eastern grey kangaroos and red-necked wallabies coming to graze in the afternoons.
Stroll along Mooraback walking track, a short loop walk from the campground. Or wander out to Platypus Pools in the upper reaches of Hastings River and see if you can spot a platypus or two.
At night, enjoy a barbecue dinner, sit by the warmth of a campfire and listen to the sounds of the bush. When you wake the following morning, you'll emerge from your tent - most likely to a beautiful frost - and can prepare for another day of adventure.
This is a small (5 sites) isolated campground tucked among the snow gums. The grassy sites are spread out for privacy. Facilities include toilets, picnic tables, wood BBQ's (BYO wood), fire rings. Water is available in the creek which is not recommended for drinking.
It's a great place for bushwalking, mountain biking and relaxing. There are a couple of walking tracks that lead from here. Bookings are not available at this campground.
Getting here:
Follow the Oxley Highway 55km east of Walcha or 150km west of Port Macquarie.
Turn into Kangaroo Flat Road
After approx. 19.5kms, turn into Mooraback Road and follow for 7kms to the park entrance.
After entering the park, Mooraback campground is another 7km along Mooraback Road.
