Cockatoo Lake Recreation Reserve

Free Camping - South Australia

Enjoy the beautiful tranquil water front views of Cockatoo Lake on a day trip or stay for a few nights. Favourite activities are yabbying, water skiing, walking and fishing.

There are flat green areas to park the van or pitch a tent.

This is a great spot if you prefer to be out of town. Cockatoo Lake is a short drive north of Naracoorte (30kms). The lake is seasonal and water level is dependent on rainfall.

Lovely setting around the picturesque lake. Plenty of space for all size vehicles. Clean and tidy toilet facility.

Loved our short stay here. Not much water in the lake but a good walk around. Plenty of birdlife. Clean flushing toilet a bonus

The other side of the lake is accessible via 105 Deepwater road. No facilities here. Rubbish has to be taken out. Not possible to drive around the lake unless you are into extreme 4 wheel driving

Visited this site today and still a great place to camp. Water is low in the lake but road/track around the lake has been freshly graded. New signage in place, need to bring own firewood, pits provided. Great ambience.

Stayed here Feb 2019. Lovely place to chill out. Toilet super clean. Lots of shady trees to sit under. Corellas noisy in evening and in the morning though. Good dirt road in. Suitable for on road vans and motorhomes. Good site for yabbies, but we didn't get many. Will visit again.

stayed overnight a week ago. very quiet, tranquil place. toilet was clean and the area tidy. not much water in the lake as previously commented. gravel road in was in excellent condition

A nice spot. Shade and lots of places to set up camp. Just great.

We had a pleasant overnight stay here in October 2015. The lake was very low so it was not possible to swim or fish etc. The birdlife was great. The play equipment was not well maintained. When we visited there was a sign on the Grubbed Road entry requesting we use the other entry off Deepwater Rd due to maintenance work. We were not able to use the entry off Deepwater Rd due to the poorly maintained track around the lake on that side. We then came back and entered via Grubbed Rd with no problems and no sign of the maintenance work. The toilet was clean.
