Yarrowyck Gwydir River Camp Area

Free Camping - New South Wales

Please note, this site is not accessible after rain.

This is a large, fairly basic, campsite on the Gwydir river, not far from Yarrowyck. This site is usually well maintained, but can get a little long after some rain. It is well worth doing some exploring around the river here. You will find two previous bridges, one made of large granite boulders fitted together in the creek bed. Most of these are still in place and is testament to "old fashioned craftsmanship". The other bridge is an old concrete causeway which seems to be getting washed away faster than the granite one. Just up the road from here is Yarrowyck Nature Reserve which has an easy loop walk on which you can see some aboriginal rock art.

We visited Yarrowcyk Crossing last weekend after heavy rain. We decided not to stay at the camp site as the water level was rising. Although the information on this site says go for a swim there is signage in a couple of places stating Changing Water Current or Water Level - Stay Clear. And another Open Waterway Depth Changes without Notice - Stay Clear. There is also a notice indicating that it is a Bow Fishing Area and assume all other fishing is also OKAY.

Quite a while since we were here but it was a lovely bush setting away from it all. Toilets were long drop from memory. Nice walks along the creek and surrounding bush. The site was a bit up and down but there were some level areas if you were lucky.
