Granite Gorge Nature Park

Private Campground - Queensland

Favourite

Granite Gorge is located just 12 km west of Mareeba on Chewko Road. Like no other place in the world, this awesome landscape stretches as far as the eye can see. Volcanic activity has created boulders shaped into animals. The sheer size of some of these boulders is overwhelming. The rocks form a breath-taking sight stretching out for over a kilometre.  The site features three walks, approximately 1km each and smaller circuits that will stay in your memory forever.  Vast drops reveal spectacular views of the volcanic rock terrain, softened by the verdant native trees and interspersed with creek beds.

Really nice nature park with good walks around and through the boulders, great view from the top. Swimming hole. Powered and Unpowered sites, fairly flat ground, amenities adequate, mostly untreated tank water, so boil before use. Rock wallabies are quite tame and can be hand fed, food available from office.

We have been staying here for a few weeks now and have enjoyed the wildlife and peace and quiet of the place, if you are a bird watcher the numbers of different types is great. The wallabies are so gentle and friendly and are happy to be touched. The sites are either under shade or in sun as whatever you require. The toilets and showers are always clean and tidy. The water as most places would need you to run though your water filters prior to drinking

Thoroughly enjoyable campground offering powered and unpowered sites. Very clean bathroom facilities and a laundry available. Farm animals wander around the campsite and rock wallabies scamper through at night - don’t leave food out! Good walks. Small camp kitchen and under cover eating area.
