Mount Elizabeth Station

Private Campground - Western Australia

Favourite

The station is open seven days a week from early May until the end of October (weather permitting).

Our family has been operating the Mount Elizabeth pastoral lease continuously since 1945.  The primary operation over most of those years has been production of beef cattle, but in recent years we have established tourism facilities that cater for visitors interested in the lifestyle, weather and natural environment of this wonderful region.

Whether staying as outdoor campers or as 'house guests', visitors at our station can:

      - experience the natural beauty of our unique environment
      - simply relax in the isolation of the property
      - paint or photograph unspoilt nature at its best
      - explore the wide open spaces on foot, in your 4WD or take a guided tour with our staff, or
      - chat to staff about their experiences of living and working on a remote cattle station.

Whether driving in along the Gibb River Road, flying in to our airstrip or coming with a tour operator, we're sure you will have a wonderful time here.

The Homestead Complex
Bookings for accommodation here are essential.
We have twin share rooms within the homestead complex and the bathroom facilities are shared. Accommodation here includes evening meals and breakfasts in the homestead's dining and reception area; an attractive 'open-air style of living.
Morning and afternoon tea is also available.
Mt Elizabeth has no liquor license, so guests are advised to bring their own alcohol.
There is no mobile phone coverage of course in such a remote area, but we do have a Telstra payphone available 24 hours.

The Campground
During the day, shady trees can offer you a relaxing time with soft cool breezes. Late in the day, you'll see dozens of wallabies and kangaroos come out to graze. Most days here finish with impressive sunsets     followed by a wonderful view of the stars from one horizon to another ! There are no powered sites, in the campground, however the amenities block  offers hot and cold water, showers (some en-suite style), flushing toilets, hand-wash laundry facilities and first class drinking water. There is also a BBQ with plenty of firewood supplied.

Bookings are not required for the campground (unless you wish to join us at the homestead for dinner; additional charges then apply).

It is located on the Gibb River Road, the turn off is 340km east of Derby or 365km west of Kununurra.  The homestead is 30km north along that turnoff.  We recommend 4WD / higher clearance vehicles for travel on the Gibb River Road and well-prepared, serious offroad vans/trailers.
