Owen is located 70 kilometres north of Adelaide in the heart of the Adelaide Plains. Once predominantly a sheep and cattle grazing area,today the region is become better known for producing wheat, barley, and more recently olives. The small town of approximately 400 residents is well serviced with a post office, bowling club, swimming pool, grocery/deli, hotel and golf course.
For those visiting Owen, unlimited parking is available at the Owen Oval, free of charge.
Owen is surrounded by parks and wetland, which support a wide variety of plant, animal and birdlife. The Adelaide – Balaklava broad-gauge railway line passes through Owen. The railway yard is marked by a series of massive grain silos and a 30 metre water tower constructed in the 1940s.
