Calliope River South Rest Area

This area is currently closed due to Covid 20.08.2020

Stayed on the South (lower) side. Lots of room and very quiet and peaceful. Each day there was 40 or 50 rigs coming and going quietly and each finding their own spot. Not crowded feeling. Toilets on both sides. The North (top) side has a different entry. To enter the lower side turn onto the Old Bruce Highway and go to the end. For the Top side the entry is at Historical Village off the Bruce Highway. You need to turn left immediately off the Bruce and follow a short road to the site. Both sides are great. Dump Point is in Calliope about 10 mins away along with shops. There is a fresh water tap at the dump point but no screw on fitting. There is also a small park opposite the dump point behind the service station with a fresh water tap. No screw on fitting but it has a proper handle so you don't have to hold it down as with the dump point tap. Very good supermarket in Calliope called Drakes.

Have been closed due to COVID 19 reopened today

It has been a while since I have seen this site and there has been a lot of change due to flooding. Much of the lower grassed river banks is now covered with sand but still accessible. There were about 30 vehicles in camp.

Re-opening

North side toilets are closed. There are toilets at the upper level of the south side camping area.

One of the really good ones. Loads of room even for our 19m rig. Pretty well behaved bunch. Some people swimming - we weren't game! Loos clean and tidy.

Great area for camping plenty of spots by the river. A popular place for travellers so get in early. Toilets on Southside open
