The Shanty Reserve

Free Camping - New South Wales

This free camping area is a gorgeous spot.  It is located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River and is large, grassy and offers plenty of shade.  It's known as a great fishing spot and can be a good spot for swimming and kayaking as well.  It has no facilities whatsoever so you need to be self sufficient and take your rubbish with you.

To access this camping area, you turn north off the Sturt Highway 1km East of Alfred Town and onto River Road.  You will see the signpost "Reserve" beside the river.  You will follow a 6km dirt road that in the wet, you will need a 4WD to get in and out of.

Nice spot not too far out of town Free camp, but can be busy sometimes as it is a popular site
