The City of Bunbury has opened its doors to fully self-contained recreational vehicle (RV) travellers by offering this location to use as a free overnight rest area with a maximum of five vehicles at any one time. Rangers do patrols and check for permits.
The City have decided to allow this on a trial basis only in the hopes it will bring more visitors to our city and that those that do use these areas, do so with little to no impact on our community.
All overnight rest areas within the City of Bunbury have a maximum stay limit of 48 hours and require the users to obtain a permit from the Visitor Information Centre at Haley Street, Bunbury.
If you arrive in Bunbury outside of the Visitor Information Centre opening hours, a City of Bunbury staff member will attend the rest areas each morning to provide permits.
This location provides visitors with a beach side stay that is partially protected from the sea breeze by a vegetated dune.
The Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club and Back Beach Café are just a short stroll away with the Bunbury CBD.
Also located in this area is an elevated look out over Bunbury’s beautiful Back Beach where visitors can enjoy WA’s amazing sunsets.
Visitors must meet the definition of fully self-contained to utilise these areas. To be considered fully self-contained your vehicle must be fitted with on-board facilities such as toilets and sinks. These on-board facilities cannot be a separate item; they must be manufactured as part of the vehicle and plumbed in. If your vehicle does not meet these criteria, you will need to use established caravan parks.
Please note, camping in tents or sleeping in cars is not permitted at this location.
If you are in need of further assistance, please see the friendly staff at the Visitor Information Centre or contact them on (08) 9792 7205 or via email email@example.com
