Carawine Gorge is a peaceful, beautiful and remote bush camp site located 160 km from Marble Bar on the Ripon Hill Road, near the Woodie Woodie Mine. It is shared with travellers by the Mills Family on Warrawagine Station which is a million acre or 401,780 hectare property.Fairly amazing to visualise the size.
Located near Woodie Woodie Mine/ Telfer Mine/ Ripon Hills Rd junction, It is signposted to the right and has a 13km dirt road that is in reasonable condition, which is dependent on what the weather has been like and the road conditions may change. Recommended 4WD only and off road campers and caravans, though for larger vans you can unhitch, enjoy the drive in and decide for yourself.
Great spot to relax, enjoy your photography and bird life, take out your canoe or kayak, swim or enjoy a spot of fishing on the shady banks of the Oakover River. You may even catch your dinner.
This is a free campsite that the Mills Family allow travellers to enjoy as a "free camp". It is remote with no phone range and 162km east of Marble Bar. Respect their wishes and also the wishes of what all campers are shoud adhere to so that everyone travelling our beautiful country can enjoy it.
REMEMBER: Only leave footprints, and take only memories and photographs with you.
Self sufficient campers only.
Please bring your firewood in and dont cut down trees.
Bring your own drinking water.
Give way to livestock.
No rubbish to be left or burned in campfires.
Campfires are welcome, though not in hot or windy weather. Make sure your campfire is extinguished at night and when you leave your camp site.
Dogs on leads at all times to reduce risk of eating a feral animal that may have had a bait.
No generators after dark if at all, if you need to use your generator to charge in daylight hours, camp away from other campers.
