The Cacoory Homestead was built in 1877 of local limestone by Hector and Norman Wilson. It survives as an important link with early settlement and is evidence of the hardships experienced by early pioneers.
After years of drought and loss of 4000 bullocks Cacoory was abandoned by Sidney Kidman in 1906, as the surrounding country and climate proved unsuitable for sustainable pastoral development.
All that remains is the shell of a small stone cottage. It is believed that the roofing iron was commandeered by the Federal Government during World War II.The ruinous state of the homestead complements the desolation of the place.
Cacoory is part of Roseberth Station and is located on the Eastern side of the Eyre Development Road approximately 106 kilometres south of Bedouire.
It is a lovely overnight rest area with a picnic table and dogs are allowed.
