Discovery Parks - Argylla

Caravan Park - Queensland

Mining is at the heart of Mount Isa – this is one of the top 10 producers of copper, silver, lead and zinc. Our caravan park accommodation at Discovery Parks – Argylla (formerly known as Big4 Discovery Parks - Argylla), just over one hour’s drive from Cloncurry is a great place to relax after your day of adventures.

Take the Underground Mining Experience for a guided tour 15 metres underground. Spend a day (or two) at Outback at Isa, including the fascinating Riversleigh Fossil Centre. Spectacular Lake Moondarra offers swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing and excellent barramundi fishing. Held every August, the Mount Isa Rodeo is the biggest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and an absolute must-see.

Accommodation includes unpowered & powered sites and a range of cabins and villa.

What makes a great park over a good one is the stuff. Being totally self contained we normally only use unpowered sites but as it was hot and my wife looked knackered when she checked in the lady at reception said oh we are not that busy have a powered site for te same $28. One good turn deserves another so we gave her the free toys that Woolworths are giving away.

This park is on the Barkley highway on the edge of town. As a consequence there is significant road noise. I had an unpowered site. It was difficult to determine the boundaries but that did not seem to matter. The site was very deep. It was also very dusty. The facilities were ensuite toilet shower suites. There were nowhere near enough to deal with the full park. Also they were a little tired. The price was eye watering but as it was rodeo weekend there was little choice.

This is the first park you come to from the East as you enter Mount Isa. The lovely grassy powered sites come in a range of sizes. The cabins are modern and clean. The amenities are modern and clean. The staff and management are very friendly as well. Enjoy the pancake breakfast every Sunday here. The park is split in the middle with permanents (FIFO mine workers) and tourist sites. It is all well set out and managed very well. Highly recommend staying here.
