Lush green a tropical oasis five hundred kilometres from the dry windswept and sand blown caravan parks of central Australia that is the Adelaide River inn caravan park barely 100 kilometres from Darwin. We parked in the shade of tall palm trees in a small garden by the entrance mere metres away from the Stuart Highway but hidden from its noise by the lush vegetation. Five stars it is not but tranquil pleasant very well maintained and comfortable it is. The toilets and showers are well maintained and cleaned thoroughly each day. The adjacent inn serves meals and drinks till late and you can chat with Charlie the water buffalo which starred along side Paul Hogan in the first two Crocodile Dundee movies a hug remembering to stay clear of his horns. The small township of Adelaide River has two petrol stations a shop and post office and a number of small workshops. Craft and produce markets are held three days a week. Sites cannot be booked, just turn up but we managed to get one of the last powered sites and have shade. What a lovely location. The Ghan train travelled through as we registered. Markets in the park on Saturdays. Very interesting dump point within the park. And yes, the barra burgers are huge.

Lush tropical green surrounds. Plenty of shade. However not as many sites as we thought. Can't book in advance. Nice big pool to refresh in. No TV signal as indicated. Telstra 4G 1 bar. Backs onto BP Roadhouse and Adelaide River Inn. Nice cold beer 50m away!

Nice grassy site (UP) behind service station. Quite noisy with trucks and trains. A nice place to spend a Saturday. Market day and music in the beer garden.

Adelaide River is an oasis and great value. Pleasant grassed sites in tropical garden behind the tavern. Facilities were simple but clean. The pool was excellent with lounges and a shade sail. The bar and outdoor/indoor dining are very pleasant with good food. The barra burger is legendary.

They advertise here that 11+ metres are accommodated for - they are not. We are under 9m and were turned away and sent to the show grounds which we are happy about. The explanation was that they are a small park and would not fit us in.
