Credo Station

Private Campground - Western Australia

The proposed Credo conservation reserve, which surrounds much of Rowles Lagoon and the Clear and Muddy lakes reserves, is a former pastoral lease established in 1906. It lies in the Great Western Woodlands, the largest remaining area of intact Mediterranean climate woodland left on Earth, which has an incredible diversity of eucalypt trees.

Canegrass Lagoon

More than 212,000 hectares were purchased by the state government in 2007 because of their significant conservation values. It is an important catchment area for Rowles Lagoon and includes Canegrass Lagoon to the east. Such freshwater wetlands are rare in the Great Western Woodlands and contain many plant species and communities not found elsewhere. It is a significant area for local Indigenous people who worked on the station and whose ancestors camped at Rowles Lagoon.

Credo Homestead provides accommodation in the form of the Shearers Quarters comprised of six rooms each with two bunk beds, cooking facilities in the kitchen donga, four showers, four flushing toilets, rainwater and a campfire ring.  There is also bush camping available with permission from the caretakers.  An expanded camping area is being established.  Station and camping fees apply and bookings can be made through the Parks and Wildlife Kalgoorlie office on (08) 9080 5555.

Getting there:

The homestead is 75km north-west of Coolgardie along Coolgardie North Road. Most of the tracks on the former pastoral property are for four-wheel-drive vehicles only, however access to Rowles Lagoon is open to all vehicles during dry soil conditions.
