The proposed Credo conservation reserve, which surrounds much of Rowles Lagoon and the Clear and Muddy lakes reserves, is a former pastoral lease established in 1906. It lies in the Great Western Woodlands, the largest remaining area of intact Mediterranean climate woodland left on Earth, which has an incredible diversity of eucalypt trees.
Canegrass Lagoon
More than 212,000 hectares were purchased by the state government in 2007 because of their significant conservation values. It is an important catchment area for Rowles Lagoon and includes Canegrass Lagoon to the east. Such freshwater wetlands are rare in the Great Western Woodlands and contain many plant species and communities not found elsewhere. It is a significant area for local Indigenous people who worked on the station and whose ancestors camped at Rowles Lagoon.
